CGI Animation
New York
Use of emojis is becoming second nature in the same way that use of abbreviations has. The CGI animation is based in a speculative museum-like setting. Exploring its architectural materiality, colors, form, scale and movements.
Collaboration with "Mutating Cities" by Christoph Kumpusch & Youmna Chlala
The new “global language” - emojis shape a new form of communication and digital cityscape. The film depicts a voyeuristic perspective on people communicating via virtual scale within physical space.
Prototypically, one example shown here in the film: shot inside newly opened shopping mall “Suzhou Center”, a huge scale commercial complex almost becomes a city within a city (Suzhou). The comparison of the scale of the complex and enlarged emoji scale unfolds the iconic and symbolic interpretation of architectural emojis.
Performance Installation
Ina Chen | Lujia Zhu | SUPERFUND by Hewn bros.,
An installation piece as part of 2018 Gowanus Open Studio in New York. Produced by Ina Chen & Lujia Zhu, curated by SUPERFUND. The exhibition was a huge success - attracted thousands of people over the course of one week.
Eighty years ago, Ludwig Wittgenstein had a brainwave: “a face with closed eyes and a half smile”. Our descriptions towards emotions is much more flexible than they are as expressed by adjectives. While consciousness and cognition is shaped by language and communication- can our consciousness enter a quantum process of emoji as the only pictorial interaction? “Quantumoji” presents an office happening installation through immersive Audio Visual experience towards various activities and happenings: laughing, commuting, sleeping, sex, death and so on. Video mapping “Quantumoji” onto large-scale inflatables, it invites you to an alter space cognition trip.
